Duration of the month of Ramadan

The month of Ramadan lasts for one complete lunar cycle, which is usually 29 or 30 days, and the duration is determined by seeing the new crescent visually.

When was the imposition of fasting the holy month of Ramadan

Fasting in the month of Ramadan was imposed on the 10th of Sha’ban in the year 2 of the Hijrah.

The reason for naming the month of Ramadan by this name

1- The month of Ramadan is the month in which the Noble Qur’an was revealed to our master Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, when he was in the cave.
2- In the month of Ramadan, there is Laylat al-Qadr, which we await in the last ten days of Ramadan.
3- The month of Ramadan is the month in which the night prayer is performed and the Tarawih prayer is performed, which is considered one of the main supererogatory prayers in the month of Ramadan.
4- Fasting is not a lofty act of worship or merely something that God Almighty commanded us to do so that we may suffer from hunger and thirst, but it is a worship that helps us in refining the soul, overcoming desires, learning patience and feeling towards others.
5- Fasting is the fourth pillar of Islam. The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in anticipation of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
6- The month of Ramadan is the month of liberation from Hell, as the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, told us.

1- Fasting makes the cells of the body function normally, so that the work of these cells allows the fasting person to maintain his health and maintain the rate of catabolism and metabolism in the body.
2- The thirst that occurs at the time of fasting causes the body to secrete a hormone that converts glycogen into glucose and provides the body with energy.
3- Thirst during the day in Ramadan helps increase the secretion of anti-diuretic hormone, which has a role in strengthening memory and improving the ability to learn.

5- Increases the efficiency and activity of the liver and muscles.
6- Fasting helps relieve the pancreas from secreting sugar in the blood, which improves blood sugar.

The virtues of the month of Ramadan

There are many virtues of the month of Ramadan, and among these benefits are what was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, and among them what was mentioned in the honorable Sunnah of the Prophet.
1- God Almighty revealed the Noble Qur’an in the month of Ramadan.
2- In this month is the Night of Power, which is as long as a thousand months.
3- God Almighty forgives sins during the month of Ramadan and makes it a reason to enter paradise, as the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, told us.
4- In this elephant month, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed.
5- God arrests people from the fire, especially those who fast and worship God Almighty
6- God Almighty responds to His fasting servants’ prayers that they supplicate during the time of fasting.

Given the importance of the holy month of Ramadan, this is why a lot of information about the month of Ramadan is given to children at an early stage of their life to teach them what Ramadan is, including:
1- The meal that is eaten before fasting is called the Suhoor meal, while the meal that is eaten at Maghrib time is the Iftar meal.
2- At the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate the advent of the holiday, which is called Eid al-Fitr. It is celebrated by wearing new clothes, presenting gifts, and eating sweets and cakes.
3- In the month of Ramadan, Muslims must help the needy through alms and participate in voluntary work or obligatory giving.
4- It is better for a Muslim to break his fast with three dates, so that these dates give the energy that a person lacks.
5- The month of Ramadan increases the interdependence between the rich and the poor and makes the rich feel the poor.
